Camp 4

Yosemite National Park, California | 2021
As the Senior Associate and Project Manager for JNRA, Daniela Peña Corvillon collaborated on all phases this project.

At the heart of Yosemite’s rock climbing culture, Camp 4 has undergone a transformative expansion. This project breathes new life into this iconic campground while preserving its rugged spirit.

The expansion doubles the campground’s capacity, introducing 25 new 6-person campsites, each enhanced with picnic tables and fire pits. Fully accessible campsites now ensure inclusive outdoor experiences for all visitors. A state-of-the-art comfort station featuring shower facilities adds modern convenience, while a communal group pavilion fosters the climber community spirit that Camp 4 is known for.

To improve visitor experience, we relocated the comfort station building and expanded parking to accommodate more adventurers. Thoughtful trail connections now integrate the camp seamlessly with Yosemite’s vast network of paths. Throughout the project, extensive forest restoration was undertaken to maintain the area’s natural beauty.

This design carefully balances increased capacity with environmental stewardship, ensuring Camp 4 continues to serve as a basecamp for climbing legends and novices alike. By blending functionality with respect for the site’s storied history.
