John Muir Gravesite

Martinez, California | 2021
As the Senior Associate and Project Manager for JNRA, Daniela Peña Corvillon designed and oversaw the execution of this project.

The John Muir National Historic Site features a family cemetery where environmental pioneer John Muir and his relatives are buried. Located beside a historic pear orchard and surrounded by mixed evergreen forest, the site includes a massive Eucalyptus tree Muir dubbed a «guardian angel.»

The National Park Service manages this historically significant area, balancing conservation with public access. Our contribution involved designing visitor amenities such as an entry gate, accessible pathways, a gathering area, and interpretive signage. These improvements enhance accessibility and educational value while preserving the site’s natural beauty. Open by appointment, this residential-area gravesite offers controlled access to an important piece of environmental history.

This version maintains the essential information about the site’s significance, location, management, and your contribution to its improvement, while reducing the overall length.
